2009 Fall Leaf Ride - Day 5 - Onward to West Virginia

Mr. Sarcasm and I rolled out bright and early...in the rain...and the cold...to make the trek over to Virginia and then northward to West Virginia. Our chosen route to get to I-77 in Virginia was the Blue Ridge Parkway. Despite the rain and the cold, we really enjoyed the ride and even managed to stop for photos along the way. We crossed into Virginia on the BRP at 11:43 a.m.  At 12:01 p.m., a maniacal forest rat (that's a deer for you non-motorcyclists) ran out in front of me but thought better of it and turned around just before reaching the center-line.

By the time we got to I-77 the rain was coming down hard enough to put a damper on any photo opportunities and made us concentrate that much harder on the riding and our forward progress.

Long story short, after a bit of back-and-forth travel and phone tag, we hooked up with all of the fellas except JT (who went on to WV on his own) about 14 miles north of the NC/VA state line in the town of Hillsville, VA.

At 3:23 p.m. we crossed into West Virginia on I-77 (there having been delays for lunch, hooking up with the fellas, and gas) and at precisely 4:00 p.m. we exited I-77 onto the road leading to our hotel. By 4:30 p.m. we were all settled into our respective hotel rooms ready for some much needed rest and relaxation.

A sampling of the day's photos appear below...
